Terms

Terms

Our Customer Terms for buying memorials and emblems, and our Memorial Platform Terms for administrators and contributors.

Last updated 1 November 2026.

About these terms

These terms explain the purchase of A Legacy Beyond (ALB) memorial services and personalised QR memorial emblems. They apply alongside our Memorial Platform Terms, Content Guidelines and Privacy Policy. Please read the order summary carefully before paying. Your statutory consumer rights are not affected.

Who we are and how to contact us

The provider is trading as A Legacy Beyond. Email info@alegacybeyond.com.

Who can buy

Purchasers must be 18 or over. A parent or legal guardian can purchase for a child or young person, who may participate in creating the memorial subject to age-appropriate safeguards. You do not have to be related to the deceased, but must have a legitimate reason to create the memorial and comply with our content and privacy requirements.

What you receive

A digital memorial provides an online place to create life-story chapters, photographs, videos, voice recordings and approved contributions. An emblem bundle also includes a unique personalised QR emblem pointing to that memorial. A digital memorial works without an emblem. The precise contents and total price of each order are shown at checkout. We may change prices for future purchases, but will not retrospectively change the price of a completed order.

One-off charges and optional extras

There is no subscription or automatic renewal. Standard editing is included for ten years from the original purchase date. The optional Always Open upgrade costs £20, can be bought at checkout or at any time before the memorial settles, and removes the standard fixed editing deadline for as long as ALB provides the memorial service under these terms. Once a standard memorial has settled, the administrator may purchase a further ten-year editing period for £30. Additional storage is £10 per extra GB, paid once, and additional QR emblems can be ordered at the price shown at checkout. No card is kept on file by ALB for recurring billing.

Ten-year editing period and settled memorials

The standard ten-year editing period begins on the original purchase date, whether the memorial is completed immediately or later. At the end of this period the memorial enters a settled, generally read-only state: approved content remains viewable under the memorial's access setting and export remains available, subject to our service commitments. Visitors may continue submitting written memories, but these will not be published unless the memorial is reopened and its administrator approves them. New photographs, videos and voice recordings cannot be contributed while settled. Pending submissions may be deleted if still unapproved after twelve months. Reopening does not restore submissions already deleted under that policy.

Always Open

Always Open is an optional, one-off upgrade offered for £20 at checkout or at any time during the ten-year editing period, before the memorial settles. Once a memorial has settled, Always Open is no longer available; it can instead be reopened for a further ten years for £30. Always Open enables continued editing beyond the first ten years without purchasing successive ten-year extensions. It does not guarantee that a digital service can operate indefinitely, and it does not increase the standard 5 GB storage allowance. It is subject to the same availability, lawful restrictions and continuity provisions as other memorials.

Orders, production and delivery

Personalised emblems are uniquely made for each memorial. Physical emblems are offered for delivery within the United Kingdom at launch. Standard UK postage is included in the advertised physical-product price. An order is confirmed when we send an order confirmation. Personalisation and manufacturing may begin quickly after payment. We aim to dispatch promptly, but dispatch and Royal Mail delivery estimates are not guaranteed dates. If an item does not arrive, is damaged or is faulty, contact us and we will fulfil our obligations under consumer law. A courier claim is our responsibility, not a precondition for helping you.

Changing an order or cancelling

Please contact us promptly if you wish to cancel or amend an order. Because a unique personalised emblem may be made to your specifications, statutory change-of-mind cancellation rights may not apply to that physical product where the applicable exception is met. This exception does not remove rights relating to faulty, misdescribed or non-conforming goods. The digital memorial involves separate consumer cancellation considerations. We will present the legally required information at checkout, including any express request to start the service immediately and any payment due for services already supplied where permitted. We will not require customers to waive rights they cannot lawfully waive.

Refunds and statutory rights

Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and other applicable consumer law remain unaffected. If the emblem is faulty or the digital service does not meet applicable legal standards, please email us so we can assess the appropriate repair, replacement, repeat performance, price reduction, refund or other remedy. Nothing in these terms excludes liabilities or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Access, hosting and changes to the service

We take reasonable measures to maintain and secure memorials, but online services can be interrupted for maintenance, incidents or reasons beyond our control. We do not promise uninterrupted availability or that any website can remain online forever. We will not deliberately remove a memorial merely because it is old, settled or inactive. We may take proportionate action where necessary to comply with law, protect people, address security risks or enforce our terms. Material service changes should be explained clearly and fairly.

Download, memorial cancellation and deletion

The administrator can export the memorial's written chapters, contributions, photos, videos and voice recordings in a downloadable ZIP. A verified administrator may request permanent deletion of the entire memorial. We will make the consequence clear and offer export before deletion. Deletion from the live service is intended to be irreversible; technical backup erasure and legal-record retention must follow the published Privacy Policy.

If the service closes

If ALB plans to stop providing the service, we will aim to give meaningful advance notice and a practical opportunity to export memorial content where reasonably possible. We cannot guarantee a fixed notice period for all unexpected events, including sudden insolvency or catastrophic failure. We will take reasonable continuity measures consistent with our published arrangements and applicable law.

Complaints and contact

Write to info@alegacybeyond.com with questions or complaints. We will assess them fairly and provide information about any applicable statutory routes. These terms are governed by the law applicable to the consumer contract and do not deprive consumers of mandatory legal protections.

Memorial Platform Terms

A Legacy Beyond is a place to preserve and share memories of people who have died. These Platform Terms explain how administrators and contributors use memorials. They apply alongside our Customer Terms, Content Guidelines and Privacy Policy.

Creating a memorial

An adult customer can create a memorial for a deceased relative, friend or another person they have a legitimate connection to. Proof of family relationship is not routinely required. The creator must not impersonate others or misuse the service. More than one genuine memorial may exist for the same deceased person; disputes will be reviewed fairly and without an automatic family veto.

Administrators and access

The verified Memorial Administrator manages the memorial, approves submitted memories, edits life-story content, chooses its privacy setting and can request closure. The administrator must use accurate contact information, keep sign-in methods secure and not share account credentials. ALB may require reasonable identity verification for high-impact actions.

Public and PIN-protected memorials

A public memorial can be opened by anyone with its link or QR emblem and may appear in search results. A private memorial requires the administrator's four-digit PIN, including when opened using the QR emblem. Administrators can change the setting without buying a replacement emblem. A PIN may be passed on by recipients and cannot guarantee confidentiality once content is viewed or copied. We take reasonable steps to prevent indexing of private content, although old third-party search results may not disappear immediately.

Life stories and uploads

Administrators may add chapters, images, films, audio and other supported content within the memorial's storage allowance. Uploaders must have the rights needed to share what they submit and must consider the privacy and dignity of living people, especially children. We do not claim ownership of photographs, videos or written works merely because they are uploaded. Users grant ALB the limited permissions needed to host, display, process, back up and deliver their content as instructed under the chosen access setting.

Guest contributions

Visitors may submit written memories and supported media without creating an account. A display name is required. The relationship to the person remembered is collected for display to the administrator. An email address is optional, and no compulsory email verification is required. Any email or contact information voluntarily supplied is not ordinarily visible to administrators or the public. There is no direct contributor-to-administrator messaging feature at launch.

Approval and publication

All guest contributions are held for administrator approval before publication. The administrator may approve or decline them. ALB staff do not ordinarily publish family contributions in the administrator's place, but may take action to address safety, security or legal obligations. Where no active administrator exists, contributions remain pending subject to our pending contribution retention policy.

Pending contribution retention

Pending contributions that are still unapproved twelve months after submission may be deleted, unless the law requires an exception. This applies equally to written memories submitted after a memorial has settled. Administrators are notified of a new written memory on a settled memorial in accordance with the configured notification preferences; these messages are factual, not sales pressure. Reopening makes only unexpired pending submissions available for individual approval. No pending submission is published automatically.

Contributor changes and removal

A contributor can contact info@alegacybeyond.com to ask to amend or remove their own content, without charge. ALB will assess reasonable evidence of entitlement, particularly if no email address was supplied at submission. A memorial administrator cannot veto a valid removal request. Where an approved contribution is amended, the new version requires fresh administrator approval; the original remains visible in the meantime unless the contributor requests that it be removed. These requests are handled manually at launch.

Reporting and moderation

Anyone may report concerning content to ALB without creating an account; reporting can be anonymous. We assess reports proportionately, aiming to preserve access to memorials unless specific restrictions are necessary. An ordinary family disagreement does not automatically justify removing a memorial. We may restrict or remove individual items, and will restrict an entire memorial only in exceptional circumstances or when required by law. We may act urgently where needed to protect people or comply with law.

Moderation decisions and appeals

We aim to begin reviewing the most serious safety, threat or potentially unlawful-content reports within 48 hours; harassment, serious privacy and abusive-content concerns within five working days; and general inappropriate-content concerns within ten working days. These are initial review targets, not guaranteed resolution deadlines, and any stricter legal duties take priority. Affected users may request one internal appeal within 30 calendar days of notification, subject to exceptions for new evidence or statutory rights. We aim to acknowledge appeals within three working days and decide ordinary appeals within 21 working days, keeping people informed if complex matters take longer.

Succession and transfers

If an administrator can no longer look after a memorial, they or an eligible family member may ask ALB to transfer administration, with reasonable evidence. Transfers are assessed individually, free of administration-transfer charges, and do not reset the purchase date or purchased entitlements. Disputed transfers may be paused for review. Young people who turn 18 may request an appropriately verified transfer of administration; contractual obligations may need separate agreement.

Children and young people

People of all ages may be remembered and may view suitable public material. Those under 13 participate only with appropriate safeguarding and parental or guardian involvement, while a parent or guardian makes the purchase and remains primary administrator. Young people aged 13 to 17 may participate and help manage content with appropriate permissions, but a parent or guardian makes paid purchases and takes contractual responsibility. The operation of the service must comply with applicable UK children's privacy and online safety requirements.

Closing a memorial

A verified administrator may request deletion of an entire memorial. Before processing a permanent deletion, ALB makes available the full ZIP export and explains that recovery may not be possible. Individual contributors retain relevant rights over their own contributions. Live removal, backup expiry, legally retained records and any cancellation export window are described in the Privacy Policy. A memorial is not deleted simply because its administrator is absent or its ten-year editing period ends.
