A Legacy Beyond

A place beyond goodbye

Their story doesn’t end here.

A palm-sized emblem for a headstone, an urn, a bench or a shelf at home. Scan it with a phone and their memorial opens: their story, photographs and the memories other people share.

A silent film of about 30 seconds. An A Legacy Beyond emblem is fixed to a headstone, and a phone on a stand on a garden bench scans one. The words on screen read: their memorial opens; their story, chapter by chapter; their photographs and films; memories from the people who loved them; light a candle when you visit. The phone shows a real memorial, Harry Wren's, shared with his family's blessing: his portrait and dates, his story in chapters, his photographs and the memories people have left. A candle is lit. Then a visitor writes a memory without an account, the family reads it first, and it appears on the memorial.

How it works

A silent film of 58 seconds with words on screen. Step 1: choose the emblem and memorial, or the memorial on its own, and pay once, shown on the buy page. Step 2: start their memorial straight away by adding their name and dates, a few words about them and a photograph. Step 3: invite family to help by email. Step 4: the emblem arrives by Royal Mail, tracked, in its presentation box with an adhesive pad; a phone scans it and it is connected to the memorial. Step 5: anyone who scans it can open the memorial, and a private memorial asks for its four-digit PIN. A visitor writes a memory, the family approves it, and it appears on the memorial. The example in the film is Harry Wren's memorial, shared with his family's blessing.

  1. Pay once and begin

Choose the emblem and memorial, or the memorial on its own, and pay once. You can start their memorial straight away, before the emblem arrives. Adding their name, dates, a photograph and a few words can all be ready in under ten minutes.

  2. Invite family to help

Invite family by email to add photographs and films, build their story and approve the memories people share. You can invite as many people as you like.

  3. Scan the emblem

The emblem comes by Royal Mail, tracked, with an adhesive pad to fix it. Scan it once with your phone camera to connect it to the memorial. After that, anyone who scans it can open the memorial, though a private one asks for its PIN first. Visitors can share a memory, and it appears once you approve it.

One payment. No subscription.

Families usually pay for a funeral in one go, so you pay for this once too. A monthly fee for a memorial didn’t feel right to us. Prices include VAT, and UK delivery is free.

  • Their memorial, with ten years to add to it
  • Photographs, film and voice recordings
  • Memories from others appear once you approve them
  • Public, or private behind a four-digit PIN
  • Add an emblem later, whenever you are ready

Another emblem, £39.99

A memorial can have as many emblems as you like, perhaps one on the headstone and one at home. Each one opens the same memorial. Buying the emblem and memorial together costs £4.99 less than buying them separately.

What happens to it later

  • We never delete a memorial. Only the family can choose to delete it.

  • It is always free to visit, with no adverts.

  • You can download every photo, film and recording at any time. It's yours.

  • You can add to it for ten years. After that it stays online as it is, and the emblem keeps working.

What their memorial will look like

Scan the emblem and their memorial opens. Their story, photographs, films and voice recordings sit in one place, with the memories other people share.

Why we started

A Legacy Beyond started with my little brother, Harry.

Harry was 23 when he died. He was my baby brother, my best mate, and someone I never imagined I’d have to live without.

After losing him, I found myself constantly asking his friends and our family for things I hadn’t seen before. Photos sitting on someone’s phone. Videos I’d never seen. Old voice notes. Stories I hadn’t heard.

I just wanted one place where we could bring them all together.

I looked at the memorials that already existed, but nothing I found felt right for Harry. So I started making my own.

A Legacy Beyond was born from his nickname, Albs — A.L.B.

And although Harry is the reason it exists, I hope it can now give other families what I was searching for after I lost him.

Would I accept this for Harry? If the answer is no, it isn’t good enough.

Questions people ask us

Is there a subscription?

No. You pay once, the way families already pay for a funeral, because a monthly fee did not feel right for this. There is no yearly charge either, and we keep no card on file.

What happens after ten years?

Nothing disappears. The memorial stays online, the emblem keeps working, and everything you have added stays where it is, free to visit and to download. After ten years it settles, and you can no longer add to it. Visitors can still leave written memories, and you can always read them. If you reopen it, you can approve them and they appear on the page. To start adding again, reopen it for another ten years for £30, whenever you like. Always open, at £20 when you order, means it never settles.

Could you ever delete the memorial?

No. We never delete a memorial. Only the family can choose to delete it. It is always free to visit, and there are no adverts.

What if I am not confident with computers?

If you can send a photograph to a family member, you can do this. To begin, all you need is their name. Add photographs and their story when you are ready, a little at a time if you like. If you get stuck, write to info@alegacybeyond.com and a real person replies within one working day.

Where can I put the emblem?

Most places need no permission at all. An urn, a bench you own or a shelf at home are yours to decide. A headstone is different. Cemeteries and churchyards set their own rules about what may be attached to a memorial, and some do not allow QR codes. Church of England churchyards usually need a faculty, which is a formal permission from the diocese. Please check with the cemetery office or the parish before attaching anything to a headstone. If the answer is no, the memorial still works: keep the emblem at home and share the page by its link.

Can I download everything?

Yes. You can download every photo, film and recording at any time, from the memorial's settings. It's yours.
